Paul Buckle targeted promotion to League Two after Luton Town sealed a memorable victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road in the FA Cup.

Luton became the first non-League side to beat a top-flight outfit in the competition since Sutton were victorious against Coventry in 1989, with Scott Rendell scoring the winner against Chris Hughton’s men in the 80th minute.

The Canaries had chances to take the lead but Leon Barnett and Grant Holt wasted the home side’s best opportunities before the Conference outfit struck to secure a historic cup upset.

“The boys are under pressure every week. We are good enough to play in the Football League, we just need to get out of the Conference,” Buckle told BBC Sport.

“Getting back in the league is the main priority for us but, for me as a manger, this win today is right up there.

“You need great belief and we had that today. We trained really hard for this game and it paid off. If there’s one thing about today that I want the players to take away, its belief. Belief that they can achieve something special.”

Luton chairman Nick Owen heaped praise on Buckle’s side for a “tremendous” performance which booked their place in the fifth round draw on Sunday.

“It’s a lot to take in. The players were tremendous today. They held a Premier League team for 90-plus minutes,” he added.

“It’s a huge day for them, for me and for our supporters. Norwich pushed us all the way but we were good for the win in the end.

“Scotty scored, it’s what he does best, but everyone played their part.”
