Reading transfers: Brian McDermott confirms bid for Thomas Ince
Reading transfers: Brian McDermott confirms the Royals have made an offer for Blackpool striker Thomas Ince amid Liverpool interest
Brian McDermott has confirmed Reading have made an offer for Blackpool forward Thomas Ince – but the Royals face stiff competition for the youngster’s signature from Liverpool.
The 20-year-old has been in impressive form this season, keeping the Tangerines’ promotion push on track with 15 goals in 27 Championship appearances.
Thomas moved to Bloomfield Park from Liverpool in 2011 after failing to break into the first-team at Anfield, but Brendan Rodgers is keen to re-sign the Reds youth graduate to add more firepower to his squad.
However, McDermott is hoping to pip the 18-time English champions to the England Under-21 international’s signature ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.
“We’ve made a bid, we’re waiting on Blackpool to come back to us on that one,” said McDermott.
“He’s a Blackpool player so it’s difficult for me to talk about players that don’t belong to us.
“He’s got quality, he can play number 10 or out wide on either side, he loves his football and can score or create goals. He’s got a real hunger.
“He’s a good player with potential, I imagine there’s a lot of interest in him. But once again I have to say this is a player who doesn’t belong to us.”
