Luis Suárez’s controversial second goal was the main talking point after Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town in the FA Cup third round.

Earlier on Sunday, Lukas Podolski and Kieran Gibbs appeared to have sealed a late comeback for Arsenal against Swansea – and their place in the fourth round – after Michu’s opener, before Danny Graham’s late goal secured a 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from professionals past and present.

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann ‏(@DietmarHamann) hails Michu’s instant impact: “Great finish by Michu #supersub”

Ex-England captain Michael Vaughan (‏@MichaelVaughan) reckons Podolski and Robin van Persie would have combined well after the German scores again: “Podolski and RVP would have made a terrific strike pairing this year……. But I guess RVP had to go for footballing reasons…. #lol”

Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan ‏(@piersmorgan) wants Kieran Gibbs to be as good at defending as he is going forward: “If Gibbs could defend like he scores, we’d be fine.”

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel ‏(@Pschmeichel1) reckons there could be more goals in this tie – and he was right: “This might not be over yet….. 2-2 finished, boring first half, but they made up for that in the second. Great entertainment!”

Ex-Reds striker Robbie Fowler ‏(@Robbie9Fowler) defends Suárez after a controversial goal for Liverpool: “Commentators are out of order…. It hit his hand but he couldn’t get it out of way.. Both calling him a cheat – wrong. Seriously anyone who thinks it was hand to ball rather than ball to hand needs to sort themselves out! #hatersgonnahate”

Former Leicester City striker Robbie Savage ‏(@RobbieSavage8) also thinks it was unintentional: “I think the way he then kicked the ball into the net he thought the referee must have seen it intentional or not ! Officials must do better … The more you see it, it looks like its unintentional in my opinion, you then can’t blame him for scoring!! Officials fault for me!”

Comedian Jack Whitehall (‏@jackwhitehall) has the perfect actor to play the Uruguayan in a film: “Suárez is a great villain for football. If he was in a film he’d be played by a young Gary Oldman.”

Reds winger Raheem Sterling ‏(@sterling31) wants to continue their winning run: “Good win Let’s keep this going!”

Liverpool midfielder Suso (‏@suso30fernandez) is looking forward to the fourth round: “Good game by the team. Happy to be in the next around.. Now two days off to enjoy in Spain and back training on Wednesday.”

Goal scorer Suárez ‏(@luis16suarez) praises his team-mates: “All the team played very well, I congratulate them all for the great effort. Happy to have moved on to the next phase of the FA Cup!”

Finally, Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva (‏@LucasLeiva87) echoes Suárez’s sentiment: “Important to get through the next round. Well done boys.”
