Theo Walcott is overrated and has a poor game “understanding”, according to former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson.

The 23-year-old forward is understood to have agreed an extension to his Arsenal contract on Thursday, with the new deal set to be announced imminently.

Walcott, whose current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, has been in impressive form this term, scoring 14 goals in all competitions and providing 10 assists for his team-mates.

But Robson believes the former Southampton player will be getting paid twice as much as what he “deserves” after reports claimed the Gunners have offered him a £90,000-a-week package.

“Theo Walcott has come along at just the right time and will get paid double what he really deserves,” Robson told talkSPORT.

“Theo Walcott is overrated. He’s got good pace and is looking like a good finisher but his general game understanding is not very good.

“Most of the other players at Arsenal have a better technical understanding of the game.”
