West Ham transfers: Sam Allardyce ‘confused’ by Mohamed Diame saga
West Ham transfers: Hammers boss Sam Allardyce says he has been left confused by the ongoing Mohamed Diame transfer saga
Sam Allardyce has admitted he is “confused” by the ongoing Mohamed Diame transfer saga, with the West Ham manager admitting the midfielder could leave Upton Park.
The Senegal international has impressed for the Hammers since joining the west London club on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic in the summer.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been linked with a move for the African in the January transfer window amid reports Diame’s contract contains a £3.5m release clause.
“I’m as confused as everybody else,” said Allardyce.
“I’ve been listening to all that has been going on but having spoken to the chairman, we are relatively comfortable with what is going on with Mohamed Diame.
“Whatever [Diame] says to be today, could change in an hour. If Manchester United ring up, he’s not going to want to stay, is he?”
Earlier this month, Diame appeared to have committed his future to West Ham in an attempt to end mounting speculation about his future.
“I know there are people out there saying things about me but I have spoken with the manager and told him that I want to stay here,” Diame told West Ham’s website.
“I know the club want to keep me too so I will continue to give my best for them. I knew when I signed that West Ham were going to make their mark on the Premier League.
“Since I came here I am enjoying every game I play on the pitch. I think I made a good choice because I’m very happy at this club.”
