Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger predicts ‘tight fight’ for top-four finish
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is expecting the race for a top-four finish to go right down to the wire this season
Arsene Wenger is expecting the race for a top-four finish to go right down to the wire after Arsenal’s win over Aston Villa.
The Gunners closed the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to one point with Saturday’s 2-1 win ahead of Spurs’ trip to West Ham on Monday night.
Arsenal travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday for a north London derby that could prove pivotal in separating the north London rivals with 11 games left to play.
But despite claiming Arsenal could still finish third, Wenger has warned his side that they must simply focus on securing Champions League football for next season.
“I’m not sure the other places are not reachable,” said Wenger. “Chelsea are only two points ahead. I’m not sure it will only be a fight with Tottenham. It could be a tight fight until the end.
“We are ready for that. We are ready to fight for the football we love to play. You could see that against Aston Villa.
“We continued to play until the last second of the game and we will continue to do that until the end of the season. Recently in the Premier League we have not conceded too many.
“But I think we have to improve a little bit the number of goals we are scoring because in recent games we created a lot of chances but didn’t take advantage.”
