Jack Wilshere has called on his Arsenal team-mates to put their recent cup disappointments behind them ahead next Sunday’s top-four showdown with Tottenham Hotspur.

A Santi Cazorla double inspired the Gunners to a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium on Saturday as Arsene Wenger’s men closed the gap on fourth-placed Spurs to one point.

Tottenham can regain a four-point advantage with victory over West Ham United on Monday night.

And Wilshere has urged the Gunners to take heart from their three straight league wins and forget about the defeats by Bayern Munich and Blackburn.

“We’re on quite a good run in the league,” said Wilshere. “To keep that going, we have to forget about the disappointments we have had in the cup and in midweek and push on in the league now.

“We have to keep this run going. We’ve got a big game next weekend. It’s big for us, big for the fans and as a player, those are the games you want to be involved in.

“We know what we have to do and we have to step up.”
