Arsenal transfers: Carlos Vela coy on possible return to Gunners
Arsenal transfers: Carlos Vela insists he is not thinking about a possible return to Emirates Stadium after joining Real Sociedad
Carlos Vela insists he is not thinking about a possible return to Arsenal after he refused to rule out quitting Real Sociedad and re-joining the Gunners earlier this month.
Vela, 23, completed a £3.5m move to the Basque outfit in the summer after failing to break into the first-team at Emirates Stadium.
The Mexican claimed that the Gunners had put a clause in his contract with the La Liga side giving them the option to buy him back.
But Vela, who has scored 11 goals in 23 appearances for Real Sociedad this season, insists he is only focused on the task at hand.
“I’m calm and I’m not thinking about what will happen next season,” Vela told Mexican newspaper Esta.
“If I worry it will be in June or July, and then I can speak about it. For now I’m just thinking of Real. We must keep the good run going.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to unveil a statue of Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp outside Emirates Stadium later this year.
Photographs of the statue emerged on the internet this week, showing the Dutchman controlling the ball in mid-air against Newcastle in 2003.
An Arsenal spokesman said: “We’re pleased that speculation surrounding a future possible statue at Emirates Stadium is generating interest and will obviously communicate details if and when there is confirmation of any new developments.”
