Arsene Wenger calls for Arsenal fans to help Gunners ‘stay solid’
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger calls on the Gunners fans to get behind his team ahead of Aston Villa's trip to north London
Arsene Wenger has called on Arsenal’s supporters to rally around his team and help them recover from their recent cup setbacks by beating Aston Villa on Saturday.
Last weekend’s shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship side Blackburn was compounded by Tuesday’s comprehensive 3-1 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16.
The Gunners must pick themselves up ahead for Villa’s visit as Wenger looks to steer the north Londoners into the top four, with Arsenal trailing fourth-placed Tottenham by four points with 12 games left to play.
And Wenger is keen for the Arsenal fans to show their support for the team at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
“The crowd will play a big part, especially after Tuesday night,” Wenger said. “We must get them behind us. We live in a world of emotion, of excess. We must put things into perspective and stay solid.
“We must stay united and not be destablised by people with strong opinions. We are here to win games and when you don’t it is a huge disappointment. We have to get over that and focus on the next.”
Wenger also confirmed that right-back Bacary Sagna will miss Saturday’s game with a knee injury, while Kieran Gibbs is still “a few weeks” away from a return.
