Not for sale! Rodgers optimistic Liverpool can keep best players
Brendan Rodgers says he is confident his best players are happy at Liverpool despite growing speculation surrounding their futures
Brendan Rodgers is confident Liverpool can keep hold of their best players in the summer despite mounting speculation surrounding their futures.
Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four look slim after a 2-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Monday left Rodgers’ men 12 points behind Tottenham.
Luis Suárez, who has scored 22 goals this term, has already been linked with a possible move to Manchester City at the end of the season.
But Rodgers is confident the Uruguayan and the other key members of his squad are happy at Anfield.
“Even clubs that have won the league are faced with having to keep hold of their players,” said Rodgers.
“So there’s always going to be speculation about players here and we expect that to happen again.
“I am a realist. We’ve got some outstanding players here who other clubs will show interest in but I can only speak from my experience of working with the players here and I think they are all happy.
“Last summer was a pivotal time. A lot of players could have left and we did lose a lot of experience when Maxi Rodriguez and Craig Bellamy left.
“But the rest of them decided to stay and some even signed new deals. They all seem happy. They seem to want to be here as we move the club forward.”
Liverpool face Swansea City in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday.
