Chelsea transfers: Radamel Falcao happy to stay at Atletico Madrid
Chelsea transfers: Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao hints that he will stay at the club despite interest from the Blues
Radamel Falcao says he believes that staying at Atletico Madrid is his “best option” despite reports linking the striker with a move to Chelsea and Real Madrid.
The Colombia international has scored 20 goals in 21 La Liga appearances this season, taking his tally to 52 strikes since completing a €40m move to the Spanish capital from Porto in 2011.
Chelsea and Real Madrid are believed to be chasing the 27-year-old’s signature but Falcao is focused on helping Atletico secure Champions League football this season – and not his future.
“I have a contract with Atletico for three more years, therefore that’s the best option,” he told El Mundo Deportivo.
“As a group we have the clear goal of qualifying for the Champions League. If we maintain the same level that we have showed we will achieve our objectives.
“We are not thinking about either [Real] Madrid or Barca, we are focusing on what we can give and on our objectives.”
He added: “I have come to one of the big clubs in Spain, in a very important league that is more well-known on the world stage than any I was in with my previous clubs.
“It has allowed me to grow as a footballer, to become known in other parts of the world. It has been a very positive step.”
