Chelsea transfers: West Brom boss Clarke wants to extend Lukaku loan
Chelsea transfers: West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke wants to secure Romelu Lukaku on another loan deal next season
Steve Clarke says he wants to keep Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on loan at West Bromwich Albion for another season.
The 19-year-old has been one of the Baggies’ standout performers this term, scoring 12 goals in 25 Premier League appearances after moving to the Hawthorns on a season-long loan.
Lukaku, who was signed by Chelsea in a £18m deal in July 2011, has already indicated his desire to spend another season away from Stamford Bridge to gain more first-team experience.
And Clarke is optimistic that the Baggies could acquire the Belgium international’s services for the 2013-14 campaign if the Champions League winners were willing to allow the forward to go on loan again.
“If Chelsea want to leave him out for another season somewhere, I think we would have a strong chance of getting him back here, but it is a discussion for the summer,” said Clarke.
“Chelsea are his parent club, he is their player and they will decide what they want to do first and foremost.
“Then, after that, hopefully we will get a chance to put ourselves in the hat.”
