Classy Bergkamp deserves Arsenal statue, says Wenger
Arsene Wenger says Dennis Bergkamp will be fully deserving of his statue at Arsenal's stadium when it is unveiled later this year
Arsene Wenger says that Dennis Bergkamp will be fully deserving of his statue outside Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium when it is unveiled later this year.
The Gunners confirmed on Thursday that the club would be honouring the Dutchman, who scored 120 goals in 423 appearances during his 11 years at the club, with a statue at their home ground before the start of next season.
“He deserves that statue,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“I’m very happy for Dennis that he gets it. He has what we want to have at the Club: dedication, huge desire to win, and a touch of class as well.
“I believe that every single supporter who thinks about Dennis, speaks about class. He was completely dedicated to the club. You’d never hear Dennis say ‘I want to go somewhere else’. You would never question his dedication in a training session.
“Every day, until the last day of his career, he had the complete 100 per cent focus on every movement he made.
“I believe he had what you need to have if you want to be recognised. Print your name in the spirit of people with elegance and class.
“He had efficiency but he added that kind of elegance that makes people admire you. He had something more that is very difficult to have when you’re a football player.”
The Gunners have already unveiled statues of Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry outside their home ground.
