Gary Cahill believes that Arsenal still have a chance of overturning a two-goal deficit to knock out Bayern Munich and reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Gunners were well-beaten by an impressive Bayern on Tuesday night as the Bundesliga outfit ran out 3-1 winners in the last-16 first leg at Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea successfully overturned a 3-1 first-leg result in the same stage of last season’s competition when the Blues sealed an emphatic 4-1 win over Napoli in the return game at Stamford Bridge.

And England defender Cahill believes the Gunners can draw inspiration from Chelsea’s success last season after they went on to lift the trophy for the first time.

He said: “That question was asked to Jack [Wilshere] last night. There’s no reason why not, we were in the same situation.

“It will be difficult because obviously they’re a fantastic side, Bayern Munich.

“But like Jack said yesterday, it’s not over. It’s going to be tough, but we did it last year and I’m sure they’ll feel that they can maybe do the same.”
