Roberto Mancini insisted that Manchester City still believe that they can retain their Premier League title after their victory over Chelsea.

Second-half goals from Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez fired the defending champions to a win which closes the gap on leaders Manchester United back to 12 points.

And will 11 games let to play this season, Mancini is refusing to give up hope of keeping their crown.

“We can’t think that it’s finished with 11 games to go,” Mancini told BBC Sport. “It’s not my mentality or my players’ mentality and we need to play like today. Both goals were fantastic.”

Mancini also reserved praise for Joe Hart after the goalkeeper made amends for his foul on Demba Ba by saving the resulting penalty from Frank Lampard to keep the score at 0-0.

However, the Italian has warned the shot-stopper that there is still room for improvement.

Mancini said: “I think Joe is the best keeper in England and one of the best in Europe but a goalkeeper like him can do better, with the long ball [which led to the penalty]. He could be perfect – it’s important to have concentration always.”

Hart himself was delighted with the battling win over the west Londoners. He said: “It was sometimes tough but two bits of quality won us the game. We know we have that so as long as we defend well we’ll be all right.

“Frank Lampard is a great penalty taker and a bit of a hero of mine. We’ve spoken a lot about penalties but he’s strong-minded, he’s not going to be put off.

“It was a case of trying to to go the right way and get a strong hand on it.”
