Man City’s Mancini: If I’m sacked, the whole league should get the chop!
Roberto Mancini jokes that the rest of the league’s managers would also deserve the chop should he be sacked by Manchester City
Roberto Mancini has joked that the rest of the Premier League’s managers would also deserve the chop should he be sacked by Manchester City.
The Citizens boss is battening down the hatches after the defending champions fell 12 points behind Manchester United in the title race following last weekend’s loss to Southampton.
City’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Leeds United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday has been described as must-win for the Italian by the club’s former right-back Danny Mills.
But 47-year-old defended his record at the Eastlands outfit after guiding the Citizens to their first top-flight title in 44 years last term and the FA Cup crown in 2011.
“We started our project three years ago. In three years we are always on the top – we fight for the title, we have won three trophies, we have the chance to win more this year,” Mancini said.
“All the people who talk about this don’t understand football.
“If Manchester City should sack me, the other 20 teams in the Premier League should be without a manager.”
Mancini also believes that City still have a chance of retaining their Premier League crown despite the 12-point gap between the holders and the Red Devils.
“I don’t think like this, I have a different mentality,” Mancini added. “I always think we can do everything. We have 12 games, we need to do our best and not look at the table.”
