I’m living the dream! Star striker Michu insists he is happy at Swansea
Swansea City striker Michu insists he wants to stay at the club following Sunday's historic League Cup triumph at Wembley
Michu has moved to play down speculation linking him with a move away from Swansea City in the wake of the Welsh club’s historic League Cup triumph.
The Spanish striker was on the scoresheet at Wembley as Michael Laudrup’s men ran out 5-0 winners over Bradford City to secure the club’s first major trophy.
The 26-year-old’s goal on Sunday was his 19th of the season after moving to the Liberty Stadium from Rayo Vallecano for just £2m last summer.
His fine form has prompted inevitable reports linking him with a summer transfer away from Swansea – but the prolific forward has reiterated his commitment to the club.
“I hope to stay here,” Michu told Sky Sports. “I’m very happy at this club. Swansea has brought me my first title and I’m living a dream here. I always say the same [thing].”
Swans boss Laudrup has also been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium after an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.
Real Madrid are thought to be considering tempting the Dane to the Bernabeu should Jose Mourinho leave the club in the summer.
But Michu has pleaded with his manager to stay at the club after watching the Swans book their place in next season’s Europa League.
“The gaffer here has done great in his first season,” he added. “But I have gone up to Michael and said ‘stay with us now we are in Europe’.
“I know other people will want him. He is really good, doing really well and maybe he can go with another club, but I hope he will stay here.
“We are growing up really fast and it is always difficult for a club of our size to win a trophy. But I think now we are going to play in Europe we can bring in some very good players and can be a stronger team next season.”
