Norwich 2 Everton 1: David Moyes felt that his side deserved to win the game after their late capitulation at Carrow Road
A rueful David Moyes insisted that Everton deserved to beat Norwich after watching his side capitulate late on at Carrow Road.
Leon Osman had given Moyes’ men the lead in the 39th minute with a close-range header, but goals from Kei Kamara and Grant Holt in the final six minutes sent Moyes’ men crashing to a defeat which dents their European hopes.
“We should have won the game,” Moyes told BBC Sport. “We were 1-0 up and in control and we let them get back into it and then they scored after the three minutes of injury time [that was scheduled to be played]. But we didn’t do enough to get that second goal.”
But Norwich boss Chris Hughton was adamant that his side deserved the three points.
“It was a big win but I felt we deserved it,” he said. “At 1-0 we had to open up a bit.
“They are a top-class team and at 1-1 you half settle for that but we had a group of lads who were determined to go one better than that. The spirit has never been lacking but it is an incredibly tough league to get wins in.”
The win hoists Norwich into 12th place in the Premier League table and leaves Everton five points adrift of fifth-placed Arsenal.
