We’ve no problem with Peter Odemwingie, say West Brom pair
West Brom duo Gareth McAuley and Ben Foster says there is no issue with Peter Odemwingie despite his transfer drama
Gareth McAuley and Ben Foster claim the West Bromwich Albion squad have no issues with Peter Odemwingie – but the Baggies players do want the striker to start scoring again.
The Nigeria international was the centre of a transfer drama played out publically in January which reached its climax on deadline day.
Odemwingie had expressed his frustration on Twitter at having a transfer request rejected before the forward travelled to Queens Park Rangers on 31 January under the impression that the west London club had agreed a fee with West Brom.
However, the Hoops were unable to complete a deal after Junior Hoilett refused to join the Baggies on loan as part of the transfer deal, with Odemwingie forced to return to West Brom.
But McAuley, who scored in a 2-0 victory over Liverpool on Monday, is adamant that there are no lasting issues between Odemwingie and the rest of the West Brom squad.
“It’s fine,” McAuley told the Express & Star. “The lads realise that if Pete is on the pitch, playing well and scoring goals, everyone benefits from it.
“That’s how we’re looking at it. Everything is fine now. The line has been drawn and now we’re back talking about football.”
Foster added: “[Odemwingie’s transfer request] was an unfortunate incident but we’ve just got to carry on. Peter is an important part of our team.
“When he’s on form he’s an absolute world-beater, so we will welcome him back into the squad with no qualms whatsoever.”
