Esteban Granero has criticised Queens Park Rangers for showing Swansea City too much respect in their 4-1 defeat at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

QPR were 2-0 down inside 20 minutes following strikes from prolific forward Michu and Angel Rangel, prompting Harry Redknapp to introduce Granero and Bobby Zamora at half-time.

The former Fulham man did manage to halve the deficit in the 48th minute before Pablo Hernandez restored Swansea’s two-goal cushion and Michu netted his 15th Premier League goal.

“We respected them too much in the beginning, which is exactly what the manager told us not to do,” Granero told QPR’s website.

“We had a bad first half against a team who has some of the best play in the Premier League. They kept the ball and we struggled to get it back.

“They scored two early goals as well which made it harder for us.”

Granero feels QPR can take heart from their response in the second half, but despite the improvement, the former Real Madrid midfielder admitted the Hoops were punished for a sloppy defensive display.

“Our reaction in the second half was good,” added Granero. “We pressed higher and got back in the game at 2-1, but conceded almost immediately.

“I thought we were the better team after that and controlled the game but when you concede another two goals it makes it difficult.”
