Martin Jol believes “main man” Robin van Persie is on course to fire Manchester United to their 20th league title this season.

The Netherlands striker has already netted 22 goals for United since joining the Red Devils from Arsenal last summer, helping Sir Alex Ferguson’s men top the Premier League table.

Van Persie played the full 90 minutes as United secured a 1-0 win over Jol’s Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, with Wayne Rooney netting the winner for the visitors.

And the Fulham boss was full of praise for his fellow countryman after watching United stretch their lead at the top of the table to nine points.

“Van Persie is the main man,” said Jol. “He sets them up with little flicks and combination football and he also scores the most goals.

“He scores over 30 goals a season and will be top scorer again, as he was last year. He is like Zlatan. Wherever he goes, they will be champions. Van Persie has that quality.”

Van Persie, who joined United from Arsenal in a £24m deal in August, has scored eight goals in his last 10 appearances for the Red Devils.
