Shinji Kagawa will improve, insists Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson backs Shinji Kagawa to step up his performances for Manchester United next season after a mixed start
Sir Alex Ferguson is backing Shinji Kagawa to step up his performances for Manchester United next season after a mixed start to life at Old Trafford for the Japan international.
The 23-year-old produced a number of eye-catching displays for the Red Devils early in the season, scoring his first Premier League goal against Fulham back in August following his summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
But Kagawa’s progress has been hampered by a niggling knee injury which kept him sidelined for two months over the winter.
And the midfielder’s largely ineffective display against Real Madrid last week drew criticism from some parties.
But Ferguson is convinced that Kagawa is in line to improve once he has adapted to the rigours of the Premier League.
“He’s come from an environment that is completely different,” Ferguson said.
“I think the difference between German football and English football has been shown. In Germany you can’t foul. It’s foul after foul.
“The Premier League is completely different as there’s physical contact in our game and it’s different to Germany but, next year, he’ll be better.”
