Thomas Vermaelen believes Arsenal have enough quality to “beat anybody” and has backed the Gunners to fulfil their potential during the rest of the season.

The Gunners have failed to mount a title challenge this season and now find themselves in a scrap for a top-four finish, with the north Londoners currently in sixth place in the Premier League table.

But the Arsenal captain insists he has never doubted the quality of Arsène Wenger’s squad despite their inconsistent form this term.

“You could see it from the start of the season,” Vermaelen told Arsenal Player. “This team has a lot of potential. It’s a case of everybody staying fit.

“We have enough quality in this team to beat anybody. I think you could see that in the games we played against top teams. We didn’t get the results but I think in some parts of the games we played well.”

Arsenal travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.
