Tottenham can beat Inter Milan, declares Villas-Boas after late win
Andre Villas-Boas insists Tottenham can beat Inter Milan in the Europa League after Spurs seal dramatic aggregate win over Lyon
Andre Villas-Boas immediately switched his attentions to tackling Inter Milan in the last 16 of the Europa League after Mousa Dembele’s late goal sent Tottenham through at Lyon’s expense.
Maxime Gonalons’s header had given the Ligue 1 side the lead on the night but Dembele’s brilliant long-range strike sealed a 3-2 aggregate win for Villas-Boas’s men at the Stade de Gerland.
Villas-Boas, whose side’s reward for the result is a mouth-watering clash against Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan, insisted that the north Londoners were worthy of their place in the next round.
“We deserved it over two legs,” said the Spurs boss, who led Porto to Europa League glory back in 2011. “The squad did extremely well in the second half, we got our reward in the last minute.
“[It is a] big tie next. We have set an example and we have rewarded the fans with Inter. It will be a magnificent night. We believe.”
Tottenham travel to West Ham United in the Premier League on Monday night, with Spurs welcoming Inter to White Hart Lane for the first leg of the last-16 tie on 7 March.
