Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson confident Tottenham will drop points in run-in
Carl Jenkinson is convinced Arsenal can still finish in the top four this season despite falling seven points behind Tottenham
Carl Jenkinson is convinced Arsenal can still finish in the top four this season despite falling seven points behind north London rivals Tottenham.
Spurs’ 2-1 victory over the Gunners at White Hart Lane last weekend hoisted Andre Villas-Boas’s men up to third place in the Premier League table, while Arsenal remained in fifth and five points behind Chelsea.
However, with 10 games left to play and Tottenham facing a trip to Liverpool on Sunday, defender Jenkinson believes Arsenal’s hopes of Champions League qualification are far from over.
“There are two teams to chase and I don’t think we can get too caught up in how they’re doing,” Jenkinson told Arsenal Player.
“If we go on a good run now, we’ll finish in the top four. I’m sure of that. If you look at Tottenham’s run in, it’s quite difficult. They’ve got some difficult games so we’re going to hope that they drop points.
“If we focus on what we’ve got to do, I think it will take care of itself.
“It’s in all the news [the run in]. It’s on Sky Sports News so you can’t really miss it. You see things like that and you would say that Tottenham have a more difficult run in than us.
“At this stage of the season, every game is difficult. The teams who are lower down in the table are fighting to stay up. At the back end of the season, there’s no easy games so in some senses you can’t always read too much into that.”
