Arsenal transfers: Carlos Vela rules out Gunners return
Carlos Vela plays down reports suggesting that the striker could be in line to seal a transfer back to Arsenal this summer
Carlos Vela has poured cold water on reports suggesting that the striker could be in line to seal a transfer back to Arsenal this summer.
The 24-year-old forward moved to Real Sociedad in a £3.5m deal last summer after spending the 2011-12 season on loan at the Spanish club.
Vela has already impressed for the La Liga side this term by scoring 12 goals and making seven assists to help them climb up to seventh in the table.
Arsenal are understood to have placed a buy-back clause in the Mexican’s contract should the Gunners want to bring him back to Emirates Stadium.
But despite recent rumours suggesting that Vela could return to north London this summer, Vela has insisted that he wants to stay at Real Sociedad.
“I know that Arsenal can pay £3.5m to sign me, but if Real Sociedad and I are good together, we can work something out,” Vela told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“We will have to arrange something so I can stay here. I believe that we can do something so we can continue together.”
Vela, who joined the Gunners from Osasuna, scored 11 goals in in 62 appearances for Arsenal between 2008 and 2011.
