Arsenal transfers: ‘Jovetic should sign for a top club and not the Gunners’
Arsenal transfers: Fiorentina striker Luca Toni says Stevan Jovetic should sign for a "top club" and ignore interest from the Gunners
Luca Toni says Stevan Jovetic should sign for a “top club” if he leaves Fiorentina in the summer, urging the midfielder to ignore interest from Arsenal.
The Montenegro international has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League after scoring 12 goals in 27 Serie A appearances this season.
But La Viola striker Luca Toni is adamant Jovetic should only contemplate leaving Fiorentina if Chelsea, Manchester City or Manchester United make an offer.
“I tell him to think carefully before leaving Florence, as there is an important project here,” Toni told Sky Sports.
“If he has to leave, then make it for a real top club. Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United fit that bill, but Arsenal are not better than Fiorentina.”
On Tuesday, Jovetic admitted he had a special affinity with the Gunners and would be interested in a switch to north London in the future.
“I’ve heard about Arsenal’s interest,” Jovetic told the Sun. “It’s a big pleasure for me to be on the radar of such a big club. I am happy about that.
“I’ve always had an affinity with Arsenal. It’s a major club with a big tradition, one of the biggest in Europe.
“It’s not easy to replace [Robin] van Persie, who scored a lot of goals. Arsenal have plenty of players who don’t score like Van Persie, but are also very good.
“They are still very strong. I often watch Premier League games on TV. It’s one of the best leagues in the world and looks tempting for me.
“Maybe one day I will play there but I have a contract with Fiorentina and battling for a Champions League place in Serie A is the only thing I’m thinking about now.”
