Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal’s experience of battling for a top-four finish in recent seasons will prove decisive as the race for next season’s Champions League places hots up.

The Gunners are four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham having played a game less than their north London rivals, with nine matches left to play.

And Wenger is sure his side can “grab their chance” to leapfrog their derby rivals back into fourth place ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Reading on Saturday.

“We’ve got nine games to go – five at home and four away,” Wenger told a news conference on Thursday. “The form we showed against Bayern was very good. We have a chance to finish in the top four.

“We have the experience of a few years and a special desire to do it together.

“It’s a good opportunity for us. We want to grab this chance. If we are consistent we will do it. We’re not focused on Tottenham, but the way we want to play.”

Wenger also confirmed that Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs will miss Saturday’s clash at Emirates Stadium.
