Wenger: Arsenal have shown their mental strength in tough times
Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have shown that they are "mentally strong" by responding to their setbacks this season
Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have shown that they are “mentally strong” by responding to their setbacks this season.
The Gunners were dumped out of the two domestic cup competitions by lower league opposition – Blackburn in the FA Cup and Bradford in the League Cup – before being eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich.
But Wenger’s men secured back-to-back victories against Bayern and Swansea in their last two games – and the Frenchman has been thrilled by his side’s attitude in the face of adversity.
Wenger, whose side host Reading on Saturday, said: “What is for sure is that we have had some blips that were not expected. Blackburn and Bradford.
“But overall I must say the attitude of the team has been great and when everyone is here we have a strong team.
“They have gone through difficult times and have responded well and they have shown the mental strength as we lost against Blackburn, Bayern and Tottenham.
“They could have been scared that the group would implode. But we have shown a strong response against Bayern and Swansea and that shows that the group is mentally strong.”
