Aston Villa 3 QPR 2: We didn’t get a break, admits Harry Redknapp
Aston Villa 3 QPR 2: Harry Redknapp admits the Hoops didn't get the rub of the green after losing to their relegation rivals at Villa Park
Harry Redknapp says Queens Park Rangers were unlucky not to be “three or four up” after the Hoops suffered a narrow loss to relegation rivals Aston Villa.
The west London side were impressive in the first half and deservedly took the lead through Jermaine Jenas before Gabriel Agbonlahor equalised on the stroke of half-time.
Paul Lambert’s side took a 59th-minute lead when Andreas Weimann beat QPR goalkeeper Júlio Cesar, but Andros Townsend scored his second goal in eight days to draw the visitors level.
However, Belgium international Christian Benteke, signed for £8m from Genk last summer, scored his 13th Premier League goal in the 81st minute to seal three points for Villa and leave QPR rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
“We could have been three or four up and their ‘keeper pulled off several world class goals. They broke and scored and they came in at 1-1 and they couldn’t believe their luck,” Redknapp told BBC Sport.
“We got back to 2-2 and gave a soppy third goal away. I thought we were fantastic in the first half. I thought Clint Hill had scored in the top corner at the end, and sometimes you get the breaks.
“It is hard with the points situation but we are playing very well. That is all we can do with eight games to go.”
QPR are now seven points behind 17th-placed Villa with nine games remaining.
