Stoke City striker Michael Owen has announced that he plans to retire at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a glittering career which saw the striker play for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United before joining the Potters.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, both past and present, to the England legend’s decision.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Ian Taylor ‏(@IanTaylor7) symphasises with a difficult decision: “Well @themichaelowen to call it a day. It’s always a difficult day for a sportsman when you say “that’s it.” But life goes on.”
