Chelsea transfers: Mario Gomez focused on reclaiming Bayern place
Chelsea transfers: Mario Gomez says he is committed to Bayern Munich despite reported interest from the Blues in the striker
Mario Gomez says he is committed to winning his first-team place back at Bayern Munich despite speculation linking the striker with a transfer to Chelsea.
The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour under Jupp Heynckes this term, with the Bayern manager preferring Croatia international Mario Manduzkic despite Gomez hitting 41 goals for his club last season.
Gomez, who came off the bench in the second half of Bayern’s 2-0 second-leg loss to Arsenal on Wednesday, has still managed to score eight goals this season.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the prolific forward in the summer, but Gomez says he is committed to Bayern, with three years still remaining on his current deal.
“Of course I am always disappointed when not used from the start, especially for big matches against the likes of [Borussia] Dortmund and Arsenal,” Gomez told Sport-Bild.
“But I would not have signed a new deal if I was not convinced it was the right decision. I am looking forward to the future and getting back into the first team.”
Gomez has scored 102 goals in 160 appearances for the Bundesliga leaders after completing a €30m (£26m) move to Bayern from Stuttgart in 2009.
