Edinson Cavani: Luis Suárez has encouraged me to play in England
Edinson Cavani has revealed that Liverpool striker Luis Suárez has been encouraging him to consider a move to the Premier League
Edinson Cavani has revealed that his Uruguay team-mate Luis Suárez has been encouraging the striker to consider a move to the Premier League.
Cavani has been linked with a move to a host of Premier League clubs in recent months, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all touted as potential destinations for the 26-year-old.
The Napoli forward, who has scored an impressive 95 goals in just 130 appearances since joining the Serie A side in 2010, has attracted interest from all over Europe, despite signing a five-year deal with the Italian side last August.
But Liverpool striker Suárez has been urging Cavani to favour a move to the English top flight should he choose to leave Naples.
“When I speak with Suárez, he often talks about his admiration for Liverpool and the Premier League”, Cavani told Voetbal Primeur.
“He even encourages me to come and play in England.”
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis recently insisted that Cavani would cost potential suitors at least €70m (£59m) but conceded that the player is likely to have the final say about his future.
He said last week: “Cavani knows that in Napoli he is loved and well respected. Living in our city is an act of faith and awareness.
“But if we received a crazy €70m offer, which would mean a €63m net for our club, we would listen to it – although the final decision is up to the player.”
