Roberto Martínez could not hide his delight after watching his Wigan side produce a superb display to down Everton and book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

The visitors struck three times in four first-half minutes courtesy of goals from Maynor Figueroa, Callum McManaman and Jordi Gomez to put the Latics 3-0 up heading into the break.

And Martínez’s side held on to secure a deserved victory and with it a trip to Wembley.

“I thought the performance was outstanding all the way through,” the Wigan boss told ITV1.

“To come to Goodison Park, to be able to score three goals and keep a clean sheet speaks volumes.

“I think we deserve a little bit of credit, we stopped them from being dangerous.

“We knew when to keep the ball, when to go forward, and we looked a real threat every time we got into the final third.”

Goal-scored Jordi Gomez hailed a “special” day for the Latics, who will now turn their attentions back to their bid to avoid Premier League relegation next weekend.

“I hope everyone is happy and we are going to enjoy going to Wembley,” said Gomez. “It’s special for everyone at the club, I hope we enjoy it, then play like this in the league for the rest of the season.”

Meanwhile, Everton boss David Moyes had no choice but to urge his side to dust themselves down after their comprehensive defeat.

“We have to pick ourselves up,” he said. “We have had a pretty good season, we’ve not had many downsides but today is a massive one, for me, the team and the supporters.

“We didn’t play well and if you don’t play well you are going to lose. That’s it very simply but that’s the case.

“We would normally do better and play better but it was a big off day. Even when we did try to put a bit of pressure on the shots we had were wide or saved.”
