Everton need to get Nikica Jelavić scoring regularly – Victor Anichebe
Everton striker Victor Anichebe says the Toffees need to get Nikica Jelavić scoring regularly again as they bid for a top-five finish
Victor Anichebe says Everton need to get Nikica Jelavić scoring on a regular basis as the Toffees look to secure a top-five finish this season.
The Croatia international netted in Everton’s 2-0 victory over defending Premier League champions Manchester City at Goodison Park on Saturday.
It was the 27-year-old’s first goal since his strike in a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur on 9 December, with the former Rangers man scoring seven goals in 28 appearances.
“The one [goal] from Ossie [Leon Osman] was great but the one from Jelavić, for me that was even better,” Anichebe told Everton’s website.
“We need Jela to get back scoring and he got a bit of luck, which he needed.
“I’m really happy for him because he has been working ever so hard. It was a good all-round team performance, so I’m happy.”
Everton crashed out of the FA Cup after a shock 3-0 loss to Wigan Athletic in quarter-finals on 9 March.
And Anichebe revealed manager David Moyes showed his squad tapes of their best performances from this season to help inspire the Toffees against City.
“The manager showed us a great video of how we had been playing all season so we couldn’t be too down,” he added.
“That helped us – we actually saw how well we had been playing.”
