Gareth Bale can pip the likes of Robin van Persie and Luis Suárez to the Premier League golden boot this season, according to Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The Welshman is currently third in the goal-scoring charts with 15 strikes to his name, behind Suárez (18) and Van Persie (19).

The 23-year-old has been in stunning form for Spurs of late, having netted two of Tottenham’s goals as they ran out 3-2 winners at West Ham on Monday.

And Villas-Boas insists that Bale, who has averaged 1.28 goals per game in recent weeks, could still finish the campaign as top scorer with 11 matches still left to play this season.

“It is possible, yes,” said Villas-Boas when asked if Bale could win the golden boot.

“That would be excellent. I am not sure if he will, it will be difficult with lots of players competing, but it is definitely still possible.”
