Jack Wilshere will sit out Arsenal’s clash with Reading on Saturday as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.
The midfielder had been expected to be fit for the Premier League game at Emirates Stadium but Arsene Wenger confirmed on Thursday that the 21-year-old will miss out.
However, the Frenchman moved to play down fears over his long-term fitness, saying: “because of his history we are a bit more cautious. It’s not better or worse”.
“We deferred his rehab and gave him an extra week’s rest. Medically, it was wise to do it.”
The Arsenal boss said he expected the midfielder to be available again in two weeks’ time. He added: “Regarding Jack? I think two weeks on Sunday. Not the next game, but the game after.”
Wenger also confirmed that defender Kieran Gibbs will miss out because he has ‘flu and Theo Walcott is sidelined with the groin injury he picked up on international duty.
