Shelvey wants to play in a holding role, reveals Liverpool’s Rodgers
Jonjo Shelvey has asked to be deployed in a holding role for the Liverpool reserves in recent games, Brendan Rodgers reveals

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Jonjo Shelvey has asked to be deployed in a holding role for the Liverpool reserves to “learn more about his craft”.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Merseysiders this season, has not started a game for the Reds since the Premier League defeat by West Brom at Anfield back at the start of February.
Shelvey has featured in recent Under-21 games against the likes of Manchester United and West Ham in a deeper position and Rodgers says that the midfielder specifically asked to play a holding role.
“Jonjo is a great kid, he wants to learn and he is prepared to work hard. He hasn’t had so many chances recently, but he is still a great prospect,” Rodgers told Liverpool’s website.
“He played in a reserve game recently, and asked to be used in the holding position because he wants to learn about the role, and about his craft. That shows the attitude he has.”
