Jose Mourinho admits he has a “big emotional connection” to Chelsea but insists he remains focused on finishing the season strongly with Real Madrid amid fresh reports linking him with a Stamford Bridge return.

The 50-year-old’s trip to London over the weekend has prompted speculation suggesting that he is nearing a summer return to Chelsea, after the Real Madrid coach watched Brazil face Russia in a friendly at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

Mourinho is widely expected to leave the Bernabeu in the summer, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain both touted as possible destinations for the Portuguese coach.

And although he admits Chelsea is “in my heart”, he maintains that he is only currently thinking about Real Madrid.

“I’m independent of speculation and people who know me well enough understand that in this moment I think about my job at Real Madrid,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“Again I can’t deny, in spite of this disgraceful weather, I love it here [in London].

“I have big emotional connections with Chelsea. One day I think, naturally, I have to be back in English football, at Chelsea or another club.

“Of course Chelsea is different to the other clubs. Chelsea is in my heart as Inter is, for example. One day I have to go back but again.”

Mourinho, who led Chelsea to two Premier League titles between 2004 and 2007, moved to play down the furore surrounding his trip to London in the international break, insisting it is “very normal” for him to return to the capital with his family.

“It must be normal that I’m in London,” he said. “We have a house here, we love it here. Our daughter is coming to study in London so being here has to be seen as a very normal thing for us.

“But every time I come [and] people see me walking around and doing some shopping, people start immediately start making connections to a return.

“I feed it a little bit because I say when I have the chance that I love it here, that I spent a fantastic time here, that I will return one day. So to be fair, I give a little bit of contribution for that speculation.

“[But] I’m in Madrid, I’m very committed to the ambitions of the club for the rest of the season.

“We are in the last eight of the Champions League, we have a final to play against our rivals Atletico Madrid.

“I am professional, in this moment I only think about my job at Real.”
