He’s our Messi! Enrique hails the importance of Suárez at Liverpool
Liverpool defender Jose Enrique says forward Luis Suárez is as important to the Reds as Lionel Messi is to Barcelona
Jose Enrique has described Luis Suárez as Liverpool’s version of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.
The Reds left-back has developed an exciting partnership with the South American striker this season, with the pair combining for the Uruguayan’s opener in a 3-2 victory over Spurs on Sunday.
Suárez is the Premier League’s top goal scorer with 22 strikes in 28 games, leaving the Liverpool striker ahead of Manchester United’s Robin van Persie and Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.
Enrique admits Liverpool do rely on Suárez to produce a bit of magic – much like Messi at Barça – with the Spanish defender looking to give the forward the ball as often as possible.
“In the game all the time the first person I look for is him (Suárez) and he always makes a movement and I try to put the ball there and he does the rest,” said Enrique.
“It is really easy to understand with him. He is our best player and he can do something from nothing.
“It’s like at Barcelona – the first player they look for when the game is in a bad situation is Messi because you know he can do something.
“Luis is the same – I look for him because I know he can do something different and we understand each other.”
