Liverpool 3 Tottenham 2: Andre Villas-Boas admits that two mistakes cost his side victory after Reds fight back to win at Anfield
Andre Villas-Boas admitted that his side were the architects of their own downfall after Tottenham were pegged back and beaten by Liverpool at Anfield.
Jan Vertonghen had struck either side of the break to give Spurs the lead after Luis Suarez’s opener.
But a poor back-pass from Kyle Walker allowed Stewart Downing to equalise, and a Steven Gerrard penalty completed the comeback after Benoit Assou-Ekotto fouled Suárez in the box.
“We made a couple of mistakes at the end that cost us the game,” Villas-Boas told Sky Sports. “But we can’t be too negative about what we have done so far [this season]. Hopefully this is a good reminder for us to try and go on another unbeaten run.”
The Portuguese coach added: “We did ever so well to come back into the game. We played well and managed to create some good opportunities. But we couldn’t control the game in the manner we should have.
“Apart from a couple of mistakes it was a good performance from everybody.
“At half-time we were inspired and really pushing to get the win. But we will reflect on the things we did. We are confident we can [get] our strengths back together and go on a good run.”
