He’s amazing! Liverpool’s Rodgers hails Suárez’s appetite for the game
Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers hails Luis Suarez's "amazing appetite for the game" after he returned from international duty
Brendan Rodgers has hailed Luis Suárez’s “amazing appetite for the game” ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.
The 26-year-old returned to first-team training on Friday morning after a long-haul return flight following Uruguay’s World Cup qualifiers.
Suárez was on target in a 1-1 draw with Paraguay before landing himself in hot water for an alleged punch on Chile’s Gonzalo Jaro during a 2-0 loss.
The former Ajax man is expected to feature for the Reds at Villa Park and Rodgers praised his relentless desire and energy.
“I said to the staff this [Friday] morning while I was stood there watching him, this is why you love him as a manager,” said Rodgers.
“He has an absolutely amazing appetite for the game. He’s not just jetting out to Spain to play the game. This is a boy who must clock up incredible air miles.
“As soon as he arrived in Manchester [on Thursday] we get all the players to report back so we can give them a quick medical MOT to check if they are right – he comes back in and he is back out on the training pitch again.”
He added: “Of course he looks a little bit tired after all that flying but that doesn’t stop him.
“He was out there working, running and chasing. He’s an amazing character. He doesn’t get enough credit for that.”
Suárez has scored 22 goals in 29 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside outfit this season.
