Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel unfazed by Ashley Williams reports, says agent
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is not paying attention to reports linking the Reds with a move for Ashley Williams, says his agent
Martin Skrtel is unfazed by Liverpool’s reported interest in Swansea defender Ashley Williams, according to the Slovakian’s agent.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a summer move for the Wales captain, who the Northern Irishman worked with during his two-year reign at the Swans.
Skrtel, who signed a new long-term contract in August 2012, has struggled to hold down a regular spot in Liverpool’s starting line-up in recent months due to Jamie Carragher’s return to form.
But with the 35-year-old veteran set to retire at the end of the season, Rodgers is expected to sign a central defender to strengthen his defensive options.
“I don’t read things like this, because such news I consider just speculation,” Skrtel’s agent Karol Csonto told hnonline.sk.
Skrtel was linked with a move to defending Premier League champions Manchester City before signing a new contract in 2012.
The Slovakia international was criticised for his performance in 3-1 defeat by Southampton last weekend, and Csonto says Skrtel will assess his Reds future in the summer.
“Martin still has a valid contract with Liverpool and we are not going to discuss his future during the season,” added Csonto.
“In the summer, we will see what intentions Liverpool have with him and will decide accordingly.”
Skrtel has scored nine goals in 204 appearances for Liverpool after completing a £6.5m move to Anfield from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
