Man City transfers: Dortmund confirm Edin Dzeko interest
Man City transfers: Borussia Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc confirms the club's interest in Citizens striker Edin Dzeko
Borussia Dortmund want to sign Edin Dzeko but are yet to agree a deal with Manchester City, according to the German outfit’s general manager Michael Zorc.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international’s future remains in doubt after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot in Roberto Mancini’s first-team this term.
Despite a lack of playing time, Dzeko is still the defending Premier League champions’ top goal-scorer this season with 12 strikes in 27 appearances.
But Dortmund are expected to lose their talisman Robert Lewandowski in the summer and the Bundesliga holders are interested in securing Dzeko’s services.
“There should be little doubt about Edin Dzeko being a top-class striker,” Zorc told Sport-Bild.
“He is a great forward and a player one should be keen on. However there is also still somewhat of an economic aspect.
“It would be down to pure math because Edin Dzeko is under contract at Manchester City beyond the end of the season.”
Earlier this month, City manager Mancini warned Dzeko’s suitors that the Bosnian would have to pay at least €20m (£17.4m) to prise the forward away from the Eastlands outfit.
“We haven’t spoken about the transfer market because there are 10 games to go but in June anything can happen,” Mancini said.
“For me, Dzeko is a great player but he is the type of footballer who needs to play all the time. In Italy he could score 20 goals a season but he would cost someone €20m (£17.4m) and maybe more.”
