Man United 2 Chelsea 2: Rafael Benítez says the Blues deserved a victory after watching them come from a goal down at Old Trafford
Rafael Benítez felt Chelsea were worthy of a victory after watching his side come from two goals down against Manchester United at Old Trafford to earn an FA Cup quarter-final replay.
United had raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney within the first 11 minutes.
But Eden Hazard curled home his shot to halve the deficit after the break, before Ramires’ cool finish capped a sweeping counter-attack by the Blues.
Chelsea will now take on United at Stamford Bridge for a place in the semi-finals against Manchester City.
When asked if Chelsea deserved to win, the Spaniard said: “I think so. Especially in the second half we were on top of them, created the best chances and were controlling the game.
“Juan Mata told me that David De Gea made a great save [at the end], so it was unlucky but a great save.”
On the draw against Manchester City, he added: “We have to think about the first game and then afterwards we will think about City. It will be tough and difficult because United are a great side.”
Man-of-the-match Juan Mata, who was denied a late winner by a top David De Gea save, was pleased with Chelsea’s second-half display and insists he was proud of the west Londoners’ resilience.
“In the second half we had so many chances to score and David De Gea was impressive today,” said Mata.
“Today is a day to be proud of this team. We went 2-0 down but we tried until the end but we had the chances. De Gea saved with his feet at the end but I tried and now we have a chances in the replay.”
