Man United skipper Nemanja Vidic backs Rio Ferdinand’s England recall
Manchester United centre-half Nemanja Vidic backs Rio Ferdinand's England recall despite a demanding fixture list over the next fortnight

Nemanja Vidic believes Rio Ferdinand deserves his England recall after Roy Hodgson included the Manchester United veteran in his squad for the forthcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
The centre-half, who has been selected for ties against San Marino and Montenegro later this month, has not featured for the national side since June 2011 and was not included in Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad last summer.
Vidic is not surprised to see his defensive partner back in the England set-up after the 34-year-old’s impressive return to form this season which has been crucial to United’s Premier League title bid.
And the Serbian doesn’t anticipate any issues with the demanding schedule which could see the former Leeds United defender play four matches in 11 days for both club and country.
“It’s good for Rio,” said Vidic. “He deserves the call, he has played well this season and can help the national team.
“He would have two international games, then when he comes back we have two games in three days in the Premier League and FA Cup.
“Can he play all of these games? All I can say is that I hope he does well.”
