Nikki Walker hopes Edinburgh move will reignite Scotland career

Nikki Walker says he hopes to revive his ailing Scotland career after agreeing to swap Osprey's for the Scottish capital next season

Nikki Walker is hoping his move to Edinburgh will help to reignite his international career with Scotland.

Walker, 31, will arrive at Edinburgh next season with a proven try-scoring track record, with 63 tries in 172 appearances for the Border Reivers, Ospreys and Worcester, as well six tries in a 24-cap career to date.

His last international appearance came against Italy in 2011 but he forced his way into the reckoning this term and was part of Scotland’s Six Nations training squad for this year’s Championship.

With players such as soon to be club-mate Tim Visser and Sean Maitland ruling the roost on Scotland’s wings at present, forcing his way back into the international reckoning will be no easy task for Walker.

But he’s keeping his fingers crossed he will reappear on the radar after agreeing to join Edinburgh.

“Being passionate Scots, my family are delighted that we’re moving home to Scotland where I still have a strong desire to represent my country, something I can achieve by earning selection and performing for Edinburgh Rugby,” he said.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time playing outside of Scotland but I’ve always had a burning desire to return north, so when the opportunity came to sign for Edinburgh Rugby I grabbed it with both hands.

“The club have some real quality players in the squad and I believe that together we can build a strong future and compete with the top teams on the domestic and European stage.

“Personally, as a winger, I’m looking forward to joining up with some of the championship’s most dangerous play-makers and finishers. I can’t wait for next season to start.”
