Luis Suárez stormed to the top of the Premier League goal-scoring charts after the Liverpool striker netted a hat-trick in a 4-0 victory at Wigan Athletic.
The Uruguay international scored his 19th, 20th and 21st league goals of the season in a match-winning display at the DW Stadium to move clear of Manchester United’s Robin van Persie.
Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the Liverpool fraternity, in chronological order, to the South American’s exploits.
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler (@Robbie9Fowler) finds Chris Waddle’s comment on Franco Di Santo funny before a real prolific marksman scores: “Chris waddle shout then.. He’s got everything you want in a striker, then next sentence, his mate says he’s averages a goal every nine games… Great ball for the second goal too… A pass in the final third with a bit of purpose… and a quality finish. Cool, calm, composed and confident!”
Ex-Reds midfiedler Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) reckons QPR’s day just got a bit better: “Red men cruising ….Wigan could be in more trouble than I thought they were …Harry will enjoy his dinner tonight…Well done LFC… Suárez outstanding, Coutinho very promising, Reina a lot better.”
Champions League winner Luis Garcia (@LuchoGarcia14) is flattered to be remembered so fondly by Liverpool supporters: “Just checked Reds score and received many tweets of how the travelling the Kop were singing my song again. Can’t be more grateful. #ynwa”
Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva (@LucasLeiva87) praises his team-mate: “Well done everyone for the good performance. Congratulations to @luis16suarez for his hat-trick.”
The man-of-the-match Suárez (@luis16suarez) tweets a picture (above) with his hero: “Very happy for the win and to have helped the team. Here a picture with our captain!!! YNWA!”
Former Liverpool skipper Phil Thompson (@Phil_Thompson4) reckons that result was coming after recent results at Wigan: “We owed them one at the DW, not been a happy hunting ground, Suárez genius, great result. Well done also to Pepe Reina, great saves at important times.”
Finally, the club’s greatest-ever Kenny Dalglish (@kennethdalglish) thanks fans for the birthday love: “Thank you very much for all of the birthday wishes; brought back memories of the Man United game at Anfield, will never forget it. KD.”
