Swansea 1 Newcastle 0: There was no League Cup hangover – Laudrup
Swansea 1 Newcastle 0: Michael Laudrup delighted to see his side successfully turn their attentions back to the Premier League
Michael Laudrup was delighted to see his Swansea side successfully turn their attentions back to the Premier League following last weekend’s League Cup triumph by snatching a late win over Newcastle.
Luke Moore struck five minutes from time to hand Laudrup’s men victory and move them onto 40 points with 10 games left to play this season.
The Swans were in action less than a week after lifting their first major trophy at Wembley – and the former Denmark international was thrilled with his side’s attitude.
He said: “Normally there can be a reaction after an achievement like last week, for everybody, even the bigger teams.
“But I think the boys really did well in the first half, so there was no reaction at all.
“To win this game and reach the 40 points, it’s really a great day.”
A deflated Newcastle boss Alan Pardew could not hide his disappointment at the result after the Magpies looked the most likely to grab a victory at the Liberty Stadium.
“In the second half we totally bossed it. I think they’d settled for a draw if I’m honest. It’s galling really.
“We had three or four great chances that we should have scored. And with their only shot on target in the second half they score…”
