Swansea transfers: Jonathan de Guzman eyes permanent move
Swansea transfers: Jonathan de Guzman underlines his desire to join the Swans on a permanent basis at the end of the season
Jonathan de Guzman has underlined his desire to join Swansea City on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
The Netherlands international has been a key member of Michael Laudrup’s side since joining on a season-long loan from Villarreal last August.
De Guzman scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Bradford City in the Capital One Cup final last month to take his goal tally to eight for the season.
The 26-year-old, who previously had spells at Feynoord and Mallorca, is hoping to stay at the Liberty Stadium beyond the summer after a series of moves in his young career.
“Due to my foot injury, and the many changes of clubs, I was off the radar. But it was worth waiting for,” said De Guzman.
“I don’t want to wander again. I hope I can bind myself for a couple of seasons at one place and, if it’s up to me, that would be at Swansea.”
De Guzman also revealed his happiness about his decision to represent the Netherlands over Canada after the Ontario-born midfielder made his first international appearance for the Dutch in a 3-0 victory over Estonia on Friday.
“My brother Julian put some pressure on me and stated that he would love to play with me,” De Guzman added.
“But for me it was always clear that I would choose the Netherlands.
“The Oranje is world-class and, if you want to battle in a big tournament, that is only possible with the Netherlands.”
